RCIF 's second-annual Small-Cap Stock Pitch Competition gives university students the opportunity to present their investment ideas to industry judges.


Summary:

Rational Capital Investment Fund, U of T’s student-run investment fund, will be hosting the second annual small-cap stock pitch in March 2022. Teams of up to four are welcome to submit their best small-cap investment ideas to be judged by a panel of industry experts. Undergraduate students from across North America are invited to compete for a prize pool of 6,750 CAD.

Timeline:

  • February 1, 2022 - Registration Opens

    • Registration for the 2022 Small-Cap Stock Pitch Competition opens. Teams of up to four undergraduate students may register. No late registrations will be accepted.​

  • March 6, 2022 - Pitch submission deadline

    • All registrants must submit their presentation slides and one-page investment summary by 11:59 PM.​

  • March 9, 2022 - First round announced

    • The top 18 teams selected will be announced.​

  • March 11, 2022 - Payment deadline

    • All 18 teams must submit the entry fee of $60 via Paypal to be eligible for the first round by 11:59 PM.

  • March 12, 2022 - First round - Online

    • ​All 24 teams will present to a panel of industry judges. Each team would have 10 minutes to present, 10 minutes for Q&A, and 10 minutes for judges deliberation. Finalists will be announced by the end of the day.

  • March 19, 2022 - Final round - In-Person at Hart House

    • The 6 finalist teams will have the opportunity to present their ​pitches to a group of industry judges. 

    • The final round of the competition will be held in person at Hart House (7 Hart House Cir, Toronto, ON M5S 3H3)

Prize Pool:

  • The prize pool for the competition is as follows:

    • 1st place - $3,000

    • 2nd place - $2,000

    • 3rd place - $1,250

    • 4th place - $500

How to register:

  • Teams may register via the google form link at the bottom of this page. All teams must submit by March 6 at midnight, no late submissions will be accepted.

  • If a team submits more than once, we will review the latest submission.

  • Upon review and selection, the top 24 teams will be announced on March 9. Selected teams must pay the entrance fee of $60 by March 11 at midnight with the first round on March 12.

Slides and rules:

  • Your investment pitch must be of a company with the following criteria:

    • Listed on a North American exchange

    • Has a market cap of C$ 2.5 billion or less

    • Please read through the rulebook for a complete guide.

All teams will be allocated 10 mins to complete their presentation, followed by 10 mins of Q&A from judges.
